Golden Africa mobile camp Khwai, Moremi & the Kalahari, Botswana

Golden Africa offers exclusive mobile camping in a number of locations throughout Botswana including the Kalahari, Moremi Game Reserve and Khwai, the area between Chobe and Moremi.

Owner, Rob Barber, a fellow of the RGS, lives with his wife in Maun in Botswana and has over 10 years guiding experience which started in Ruaha in Tanzania. He has been involved in guide training for Okavango Guiding School, and has trained guides for Belmond, Ker & Downey, Desert & Delta and Letaka Safaris. As such Rob has very high standards and only the best guides will do, ensuring all guests enjoy a quality safari experience.

Golden Africa offers a series of mobile safaris, both small group set date departures and private tailor-made safaris to suit client’s needs, requirements and expectations, and enabling them to explore the less trodden paths of Botswana. Mobile safaris operate with a maximum of 12 people (6 tents).

All accommodation has a fully enclosed en suite bathroom, comprising of a long drop loo, bucket shower and shaving counter. Bedside tables are provided, as are large canvas wardrobes for guests’ personal effects. LED lights are available for the evenings.

On game drives, all vehicles have fold down windscreens, charging facilities, a 40 litre Engel fridge (allowing constant access to cold drinks), large fold out table for tea/coffee break, lunch or sundowners, a satellite phone for emergencies and LED lights in roof for the return from game drive. There is a maximum of 7 people per vehicle and everyone is guaranteed a window seat.

Life in camp: at breakfast around the fire, the sounds of the previous night and the tracks of the various animals that may have passed through the camp, can be used as clues in planning the day’s exploration of the surrounding bush; and by night the day’s sightings can be recollected with a drink by the fire under the starry African sky.

Lunch in the mess tent (typically buffet-style) and dinner under the stars (typically three courses) are both served by experienced and friendly camp staff. A fully-stocked bar is on offer and there are always cold drinks, tea, coffee and drinking water available throughout the day.

When to go: where you visit on your mobile safari is entirely up to you, however it is recommended to visit the Kalahari during the summer rainy season (November – April), as the game viewing is generally most spectacular then, whilst the Moremi, and Chobe are best visited during the dry season (May-October).
