Okuti has a cool contemporary design with curved mosasa, or thatched chalets, and stands out from the other more traditional tented camps in this area. It is situated on Xakanaxa Lagoon on the Maunachira River within the world renowned Moremi Game Reserve. This area is known for the density of wildlife during, particularly, the dry season. The camp is built in a copse of trees on the banks of the lagoon and was refurbished in 2014.
Okuti is a Ker & Downey camp and combines well with other Ker & Downey properties. Reviews are consistently excellent and the camp offers good value in this area in the peak months when game densities are at their most impressive.
There are eight mosasa at Okuti - two of these are family units with two bedrooms sharing a central bathroom (children over seven are welcome); and one is a honeymoon suite. All have attractive reed walls, wooden floors and private decks. Bathrooms are kitted out with running hot and cold water, flush loo and lovely outdoor shower. The honeymoon suite also has a large bath. Each one is designed to maximise views of the lagoon.
The food is excellent, based on African dishes and all freshly prepared including baked bread daily. In the evening you can relax outside beside the campfire and enjoy the sounds of the African night on the expansive lagoon facing deck, while enjoying a coffee or nightcap. A sunken lounge, attended by friendly staff and a candlelit dining room complete this lovely safari camp.
Activities range from the excellent explorations of the lagoon by boat to traditional 4x4 morning and evening game drives.
