New family tent at Ker & Downey's Footsteps camp, BotswanaPublished: 2nd March 2017

Ker & Downey Botswana opened its camps yesterday, on 1st March, for the 2017 season and we’re excited to see a  new design for Footsteps Camp, home to “Young Explorers” and the “Footsteps Across the Delta” walking safari - perfect for a family adventure.

The new design incorporates a specially designed tent comprised of two bedrooms with a shared en suite bathroom, additional outdoor shower and veranda area for families. The spacious tent set-up can accommodate up to five family members, affording parents the privacy of a separate bedroom whilst offering the reassurance of everyone under one canvas roof. We can't wait to see pictures of the family tent in April.

The camp remains intimate with a total of six guests accommodated in Meru style tents; two twin-bedded and the family unit. Each has its own en suite bathroom including basin, flush loo and bush shower. The newly designed en-suite bathrooms allow extra privacy by accommodating the shower within its confines.

Young Explorers Programme

The Young Explorers safari is a specially designed safari which offers families the opportunity to discover the wonders of the African wilderness - together. One of the unique attractions of this safari is its exclusivity as the programme is available to one family at a time.

A selection of activities are planned with the whole family in mind. Parents can enjoy some peace and quiet whilst our expertly trained Young Explorers guide entertains the children with a multitude of activities to suit kids aged 7 – 15 years.

The Young Explorers’ emphasis is on learning about the wilderness and wildlife in a fun, informative way. The adventure sees children learning how to: recognise different animal spoor; identify a range of birds; try their hand at poling a Mokoro (subject to water levels); drive a game drive vehicle; fish; and shoot an air rifle at tin cans; make small animal traps; and how to create fire with nothing more than two sticks.

Activities are designed to be both educational and inspiring, and the time spent at the Young Explorers camp is sure to leave a lasting impression and fond memories in the minds of all the family.

These sorts of adventurous safaris are suitable for children from age 7.

All trips are tailor-made so please do get in touch if you would like to visit the new Footsteps Camp or any other properties in the Delta.
