Explorers against Extinction Botswana Wild Rhino Luxury Safari

A luxury fly-in safari to Botswana's Okavango Delta combining contrasting locations - one on the plains and one on Chief's Island in the heart of the Okavango's Moremi Game Reserve.

Here you will enjoy fabulous wildlife - track leopard, learn about the rhino's return to the Okavango and enjoy a host of activities from game drives on the plains and mokoro trips on the Delta to walking.

Explorers against Extinction: the net profit from this safari will be donated to the projects supported by our 'Explorers against Extinction' 2017 campaign, in this case helping to fund a new dog squad, trained by Animals saving Animals here in the UK and deployed to Botswana to help Rhino Conservation Botswana protect the Okavango's rhinos.

Your stay will contribute to an important rhino conservation project. In Botswana there is a grand vision to relocate numerous black and white rhino from poaching hot spots across Africa to the relative safety of the Okavango Delta. Here, monitored by Rhino Conservation Botswana, the hope is that rhino will breed and flourish and the species will be given a lifeline. All five species of rhino are endangered and with current levels of wildlife crime, they face extinction within the decade. This ambitious project could help change that. Via our Explorers against Extinction campaign we have funded and supplied Rhino Conservation Bostwana's first dog squad, to help protect the precious rhinos of the Okavango. These dogs are currently being trained by ASA for deployment in early summer 2018 - please visit our Conservation pages for more info.

Safari Itinerary

DAY 1-3

Chief's Island, Moremi Game Reserve, Okavango Delta
Fly by light aircraft from Maun to the heart of the Okavango Delta. Mombo Camp sits on the northern tip of Chief's Island within the Moremi Game Reserve, a premier wildlife destination. The area boasts enormous concentrations of plains game and predators which begin virtually on Mombo’s doorstep, with the surrounding floodplains teeming with game year round. The camp, newly rebuilt, is incredibly luxurious and stylish. Enjoy 4x4 game drives , try out the HIde, relax with a massage, visit the gym or learn about Wilderness' commitment to conservation at the 4Cs centre. Attend a Rhino Conservation presentation given by an expert on the rhino relocation project. These talks address the current plight of the rhino and how Wilderness Safaris is helping to safeguard these mammals.

DAY 4-6

Okavango Delta
This morning fly to Vumburu Plains in a private concession in the Delta. Being in a private concession means guests can enjoy a variety of activities including day and night 4x4 drives, walking, mokoro and boat excursions, fishing and birding. Water based activities are subject to water levels in the Delta at the time of your visit. The annually flooded grasslands of the Okavango Delta surrounding Vumbura Plains are locally referred to as 'melapo' and offer good seasonal viewing of elephant, giraffe, impala, sable antelope, kudu, zebra, common waterbuck and reedbuck, tsessebe, wildebeest, red lechwe and Cape buffalo. Hippo and crocodile are common in the waterways. Predators include the African wild dog, several resident prides of lion, as well as leopard, cheetah and African wildcat. Birding is exceptional all year round.
