Walk on the Wild Side

One of the most rewarding safari activities you can do is take a walking safari staying at remote bush camps. Zambia is home to the original walking safaris run by Norman Carr Safaris and is the only place where you can experience this true "Walk on the Wild Side". A once-in-a-lifetime experience!

The Real Africa Trust works with leading conservation organisations to raise awareness as well as raising funds for specific projects. Partners include Save the Elephants, Save the Rhino, The Sheldrick Trust, Rhino Conservation Botswana and Animals saving Animals. You can find out more on our Conservation pages. On behalf of every client travelling, Real Africa makes a donation to the Trust. Our aim is to raise awareness about the plight of endangered species and to promote sustainable, socially responsible travel which benefits the wildlife and communities you choose to visit. Norman Carr Safaris works with a number of schools and communities in the Luangwa Valley, including Kapani School, SEKA Educational Theatre and Kukumbi Rural Health Centre. They also work with the Luangwa Conservation Society, partners of the Zambia Wildlife Authority who manage the region’s flora and fauna. Your safari will give you an insight into the importance of this work.

Safari Itinerary

DAY 1-3

South Luangwa
You will be met at Lusaka Airport and transferred to the check in for your flight to Mfuwe where your safari guide will be waiting for you. You will then be taken to the remote lagoon side Luwi Bush Camp. There are few tracks in this pristine area and where so much of your safari will be done on foot.

DAY 4-5

South Luangwa
This morning you will enjoy a gentle three hour walk down the Luwi River before ambling into Nsolo Bush Camp, with four spacious thatched chalets facing a waterhole, and again there are few vehicle tracks in this area. Various pride territories overlap in this region of Luangwa and the wildlife is excellent.

DAY 6-8

South Luangwa
Today you will move on to Kakuli Bush Camp, a spectacular small tented camp on the Luangwa River. Here a mixture of game drives, night drives and walking is offered.
