Wings over Southern Tanzania

The southern parks in Tanzania often vast tracts of land, fewer lodges than the Northern Circuit, and even fewer visitors. Wildlife is absolutely superb, with all the Big Five and supporting cast to be found here. However, because of the geography, it can take a while to see all the area has to offer so we recommend staying a minimum of 3-4 nights in each camp.

We think a safari in the southern parks combines perfectly with a few days on the beach - take your pick and head for the mainland coast, to wonderful Ras Kutani or fly to Mafia Island or the exclusive new Thanda island, both set within marine reserves just off the coast of Tanzania - please ask for details.

Please note: the camps in the southern parks close between mid March and early June during the long rains.

Real Africa fund raises for conservation partners including Save the Elephants and Save the Rhino International. On behalf of every client travelling the Real Africa Trust makes a donation to one of our nominated projects. In addition, the camps selected on this safari are actively involved in community and wildlife conservation, supporting, for example the Ruaha Carnivore project which studies the predators of Ruaha, and Big Life Foundation, who operate anti-poaching dog squads, protecting an area of 2 million acres.

Safari Itinerary

Dar es Salaam
On arrival you will be met and transferred to your hotel, the Serena in Dar. The rest of the day is at leisure.

DAY 2 - 4

Ruaha National Park
You will be on the morning scheduled flight to Ruaha, arriving in time for lunch and the afternoon game drive. This is an ancient landscape with a unique atmosphere different from any other. This is one of the quietest parks in East Africa and it is rare to see another vehicle. It is also an excellent place to spot predators due to the landscape.

DAY 5 - 8

Selous National Reserve
After breakfast you head off for your flight to Selous arriving in time for a delicious lunch in camp and an afternoon game drive. Selous is Africa’s largest wildlife sanctuary covering an area slightly larger than Switzerland. Selous is a vast paradise of untamed bush, untouched forests, crocodile-filled lakes and emerald green floodplains in the little-visited south of Tanzania.
