Zimbabwe Explorer - History and Wildlife

This is a comprehensive tour which takes in the history of Zimbabwe with a trip to historic Bulawayo and a full day guided tour of the ancient Great Zimbabwe, a ruined city constructed in 1300. You also get the chance to go on safari in Motobo National Park, Hwange National Park and Lake Kariba in Matusadona National Park. You will have a good chance of spotting the Big Five as Zimbabwe is home to a huge amount of wildlife including rare species such as black rhino and wild dog. You end the tour at the iconic Victoria Falls.

Partners include Save the Elephants, Save the Rhino, The Sheldrick Trust, Rhino Conservation Botswana and Animals saving Animals. You can find out more on our Conservation pages. On behalf of every client travelling, Real Africa makes a donation to the Trust. Matusadona NP is an Intensive Protection Zone for the endangered black rhino which you will be able to see during your stay. During your stay in Hwange, at The Hide, you have the chance to learn about The Hide Community Trust The Hide Community Trust which runs alongside The Hide and is partnered with a local community that surrounds Hwange National Park. They work to find human wildlife conflict solutions and run a number of conservation initiatives which cover education, recycling and sustainable agriculture.

Safari Itinerary


On arrival in Harare you will be met and transferred to the lovely Armadale Lodge an old farmhouse in a quiet location in Harare.

DAY 2 - 3

Today you will be transferred to the airport for your flight to Bulawayo and to your hotel the iconic Bulawayo Club. The next day you will join your expert guide for a full day tour of Great Zimbabwe which is a ruined city constructed between 1200 and 1450 for the Karanga and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

DAY 4 - 5

Motobo National Park
Today you will be met and transferred to Motobo National Park with its granite kopjies, wooded valleys and ancient rock art. You can also track rhino on foot here and see the site of Sir Cecil Rhodes' grave atop World's View. You also get the chance to go rhino tracking in one of the few places where you can still see these very endangered creatures.
