When To Go
The dry winter months between May and September offer warm days of around 23-28 degrees, and cold nights. Increasingly, animals congregate around water sources while vegetation is reduced.
Victoria Falls is majestic at this time with mid to low water levels ensuring spray does not obscure your view.
The hottest month is October with highs of 33 degrees. The wet summer season which peaks December to February sees the landscape transform to a lush green with many young being born and wonderful birding.
What To Do
Zimbabwe’s guides have the reputation for being among the best in Africa – accreditation is incredibly hard to achieve with years of study and field experience required.
Access between parks is often by light aircraft, with camps and lodges in remote areas. Camps tend to be less luxurious. A safari here is all about the immersive experience; walking in the bush, paddling a canoe, and letting your guide reveal Zimbabwe’s culture and wildlife to you.

Zimbabwe (or Zim as it’s affectionately known!) is slowly opening up its doors to tourists once again. This used to be one of the most popular safari destinations in Africa and rightly so. It is a fascinating country with a huge abundance of wildlife, beautiful scenery, some historic sites such as Great Zimbabwe and a wonderful range of accommodation.
The people of Zimbabwe are famous for being warm and welcoming and are keen to restore the reputation of their country as a fantastic holiday destination. Zimbabwe is still a relatively quiet destination with some diverse landscapes providing excellent safari destinations.
You won’t find better more dedicated guides anywhere else in Africa and if you’re happy to surrender a bit of panache at your lodge then Zimbabwe will be hugely rewarding.
Try a mobile camp in Mana, get out in a kayak on the great Zambezi River, walk in the bush and get close to elephants or stake out a waterhole in Hwange. We love the range of activities and the off the beaten track feel of Zim.
