The team behind Real Africa are incredibly well travelled and know Africa like the back of their hand. In the next few months we have team members heading out to the Skeleton Coast in Namibia and off to South Africa to check out some new accommodation. We all have our different favourites and recently we got talking about our favourite views and the places that we think are unmissable. We couldn’t narrow it down to one favourite each and even picking just a couple was incredibly hard as there are just so many to choose from. So here are Real Africa’s favourite views:
Lily: In Zambia I had a wonderful flight from South Luangwa National Park to the Lower Zambezi National Park and the pilot flew very low over the Zambezi- when I said how thrilling it was, he turned round and did it again! The area around is stunning with a range of hills in the background and the wide Zambezi River – I felt like a bateleur eagle riding the air currents!
Lily: I was also going to mention the view from Mweya Lodge, overlooking the Kasinga Channel in Queen Elizabeth National Park … at sunset. Looking towards the Rwenzori Mountains (Mountains of the Moon) the colours in the sky, brilliant reds, pinks and blues were awesome. Uganda is a truly beautiful country.
Helen: My vote has to be for the amazing Victoria Falls, especially the view from the Zimbabwe side. It truly is a once-in-a-lifetime, must-see spectacle – the sound of the thundering falls is deafening, the view is amazing, and the ‘rainbows’ are stunning! It is a total assault on all the senses -the spray will soak you through so don’t forget to pack a raincoat.
Paul: My favourite view is from Satao Elerai Camp in Amboseli National Park in Kenya. As the sun rises you have the most fabulous view of Mt. Kilimanjaro from the dining area. Some of the rooms also even have this stunning view. The sight as the sun rises takes your breathe away as the mountain stands majestically in front of you lit up in the golden morning sunlight.
Robert: In South Africa my favourite view has got to be off shore in the morning at Plettenberg Bay where the whole coast has a softness as it is shrouded in mist – just beautiful! In Tanzania I was bowled over by the awesome view from the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater, looking down into it, especially after the rains when the lake is full. The Ngorongoro Crater is the enormous bowl created by an extinct volcano and it is one of nature’s most spectacular sites. In fact it is a UNESCO world heritage site to ensure its beauty is protected for future generations.
Ruth: It really is very hard to choose just one view. My favourite really has to be the view of the Storms River mouth as it crashes headfirst into the sea at the edge of the beautifully wild Tsitsikamma Forest. The view for the road bridge spanning the canyon is pretty amazing but the view from the small suspension bridge right over the mouth is even better. Storms River lives up to its name and it is at its most impressive on blustery, stormy day. You can find it on the world famous Garden Route in South Africa all of which is home to lots of beautiful coastal scenery and amazing wildlife.
