Kwara Camp is built on a forested island which looks out over a huge floodplain that runs off a large lagoon. Behind it are many varying plains and areas of bush which are ideal for game. Looking out west over the lagoon Kwara Camp enjoys spectacular views of the setting sun at dusk. Kwara shares the private Kwara concession, to the north of the Moremi Game Reserve, with its newer and slightly more sophisticated sister camp, Little Kwara. This area is game-rich and known for excellent predator sightings.
After a long day, you can relax by the small pool or enjoy a tea or drink in the small bar, where a campfire is lit every night at dusk. The food is excellent, eaten looking out over the bush and listening to the amazing sounds of the African night.
Kwara offers a very relaxed camp ambience with simply furnished tents and really good activities (walks, game drives, fishing, boat rides, mokoro). The wildlife viewing is excellent here, especially the big predators which the guiding team are very focused on.
SPLASH CAMP OPENING JUNE 2018
We are very happy to announce the opening of Splash Camp in June 2018. Splash is located in the Kwara Private reserve in the Okavango Delta and will use the same airstrip as Kwara, have access to the same wildlife areas and can be used in itineraries in exactly the same way as the Kwara camps.
(Little Kwara will stay open through early July 2018 and thereafter all Little Kwara bookings will be upgraded to Splash Enclave.)
Kwando Kwara Camp has only eight tents that are built on raised decks. Each tent contains two beds. The tents are located within a grove of African Ebony trees. Each tent has an indoor/outdoor shower with hot and cold running water, and a flush loo. The honeymoon tent offers a bath. The front of each tent has a private viewing deck, where visitors will see many animals, especially hippopotamus that love the water area, right in front of the tents. Warthogs also regularly visit the camp. Visitors to this camp get very close to many of the animals.
Kwando Kwara Camp is located on the Okavango Delta, which is home to over 30,000 African buffalo and elephants. The delta has over 200,000 animals, including giraffes, Nile crocodiles, black rhinoceros, white rhinoceros, spotted hyena, sable antelope, cheetah, leopards, are all amongst the many animals. The delta has one of the richest wildlife densities in Africa.
4x4 game drives are offered morning and evening. Because Kwara is in a private concession these can be done off-road and also with a flashlight and tracker at night.
The camp is surrounded by permanent water so the boating activities are excellent. During the day, guests can ride in canoes or mokoros - gliding silently on the still water as the sun comes up over the delta is a truly memorbale experience. The water is populated with tigerfish, tilapia and catfish. During the evening guests can enjoy riding on the camp power boat and viewing the wildlife from the water. Guests can enjoy seeing the many species of birds that live near the water, including heron and storks. The lucky visitor may even see one of the world’s most elusive birds, the Pel’s Fishing Owl.
Please note; there is no fishing in January/February because it is the breeding season.
