Shinde Camp is located in the very heart of the Okavango Delta. The palm island on which it sits is home to many animals and wonderful bird life. Between January and April 2015 the camp underwent a complete refurbishment and now offers a superb level of comfort within the wilderness.
Shinde is a small and exclusive camp, with a tree house feel thanks to the main communal area which consists of raised teak platforms, decks and a series of canvas roofs further shaded by ebony and marula trees - the marula being a magnet for elephants in the Green Season who come and raid it for the fruit. There are only 8 twin-bedded tents. These tents are well spaced meaning that you get the privacy and peace that such a beautiful location deserves. All the accommodation is built on raised platforms to maximise the view of the nearby lagoon, and all have en suite facilities. By star light, it is lovely to relax with a drink around the camp fire. The evenings are adorned by the panoramic vision of the gorgeous sunsets over the flood plains.
Shinde is one of the Ker & Downey properties we recommend in Botswana. Shinde is accessed by light aircraft flight.
Shinde offers eight classic safari guest tents which each incorporate a spacious bathroom with a large walk in shower and luxurious fittings. The bedrooms have all been enlarged during the refurbishment and boost new linen and furniture. Wide sliding doors lead onto the extended front decks and offer breath-taking views over the open floodplains beyond.
Accommodation is generally twin share on comfortable three quarter beds, however double accommodation is available on request.
There is a small pool in the camp and a multi-tiered dining room and lounge set under canvas beneath the mangosteen trees.
The supreme attraction of the camp is the mix of water and land based activities offered year-round. There are game drives, bush walks with a ranger, fishing and motor boating or mokoro trips. We have been following the lives of the Shinde leopard cubs for a couple of seasons now so always love to hear an update from our clients. Having the chance to see leopard cubs is just wonderful and we hear they are growing at a terrific rate!
