Xugana Island Lodge is situated in a fabulous location, in the very heart of the Okavango Delta. It faces onto the serene blue waters of the Xugana Lagoon – the best of all the permanent water locations in the whole of this enormous Delta.
Xugana reflects the gentle pace of a bygone Africa and sits nestled under shady trees overlooking the slow flowing waters of the lagoon. The atmosphere is timeless and relaxed. The lodge has just eight large raised reed and thatch chalets which sit on Xugana Island, shaded by riverine trees. All the chalets have a gorgeous lagoon view, ensuite bathrooms and expansive teak decks. The lounge, bar and dining areas are set back under the tree canopy and form open sided thatched areas which allow the soft breezes to waft through. The swimming pool sits in the middle of the lovely gardens and is a great place for a refreshing dip. Xugana is also renowned for its unique dinner venues as you can have dinner out in the open air boma or on one of the many little islands dotted about the lagoon. Perfect for honeymooners!
Xugana Island Lodge's location on the permanent lagoon means that most of the safari activities are water based. You can explore the beautifully clear waters of the lagoon and neighbouring channels by mokoro (the traditional dugout canoe) or a motorboat. The water attracts lots of wildlife and the birding here is absolutely spectacular. You can also explore the area on a guided nature walk to the neighbouring islands. Fishing of course is also a must here and you can catch bream and tiger fish. This water based camp combines brilliantly with somewhere like Savute Safari Lodge where land-based safari is offered.
