Safari Itinerary

DAY 1 - 3

Moremi Game Reserve
On arrival at Maun Airport you will be assisted onto your connecting flight to the Khwai Airstrip where you will be met by a representative and transferred to Machaba Camp in time for lunch. The Moremi is home to the most endangered species of large mammals: the cheetah, white rhinoceros, black rhinoceros, African wild dog and lion. Within the larger UNESCO listed Okavango Delta Game Reserve, Moremi covers about 40% of the Okavango. The Moremi and the Okavango Delta is one of the few interior delta systems that do not directly flow into the ocean or sea. The annual flood makes for a spectacular interaction between water and wildlife, as animals synchronize their cycles with this seasonal flood. The concession for Machaba is smaller than most, but the game is incredibly dense. For the real Okavango Delta experience, hop in a mokoro; this dug-out canoe is manned by an experienced river-guide in the shallower waters of the Okavango. The river-guides know every bend of the Khwai River and will tell you all about the surroundings while you silently glide through the waterways. All the mokoro excursions take place in the morning, and even longer day trips can be arranged. Game drives are conducted in the mornings and evenings, and for a full three hours, your guide and tracker will seek out the best wildlife viewings for you. The wildlife in this region is prolific and chances are good to see some of the larger predators, herds of elephant and buffalo and all the plains animals that typically inhabit the area. Night drives are also allowed in this concession: offering you a chance to spot smaller, nocturnal animals, staring with big bright eyes into the spotlights. Guided walks are the perfect way to start another safari day. On a slow pace, smaller flora and fauna is discovered – things you normally miss during a drive.

DAY 4 - 6

Gomoti, Okavango Delta
Early morning game drive followed by breakfast. After breakfast, you will be transferred to the airstrip for your flight to your next camp. On arrival at Gomoti Plains Airstrip, you will be met by a representative and transferred to Gomoti Plains Camp in time for lunch. The area is known for its large concentrations of wildlife which thrive on the Gomoti plains and waterways. This exclusive area has been a well-kept secret for many years. The Gomoti region has been the local haunt of many of the older guides and Okavango dwellers who refer to it in nostalgic terms when they used to camp along this river system. This wild and pristine area has over the years produced some phenomenal wildlife encounters including the filming and studying of the African wild dog packs which inhabit this area.

DAY 7 - 9

Hwange National Park
Early morning game drive followed by breakfast. After breakfast, you will be transferred to the airstrip for your flight to Kasane, where you transfer by road (45 mins) to Victoria Falls where you catch a light aircraft flight to your safari camp. Hwange National Park is Zimbabwe’s largest national park, located in the far west of the country along the border with Botswana. With up to 30,000 elephants, Hwange is one of the few great elephant sanctuaries left in Africa. All Zimbabwe's specially protected animals are to be found in Hwange and it is the only protected area where gemsbok and brown hyena occur in reasonable numbers. The population of wild dog to be found in Hwange is thought to be of one of the largest surviving groups in Africa today. Prides of lions are also common. On arrival, check-in and enjoy a short rest before departing on your first afternoon/evening game drive. Return to the Lodge in time to freshen-up before dinner. Verney’s Camps offer both game drives and walking safaris each giving you the opportunity to experience Africa up-close. As the camp is in a private reserve, game drives can be taken both during the day and in the evenings. Sunset drives allow for the enjoyment of viewing the many nocturnal creatures not often seen by the public.
