Northern Circuit - Classic Tanzania Lodge Safari

This classic safari to Tanzania's famous Northern Circuit parks is perfect for a family, friends travelling together or simply those who enjoy the freedom of their own vehicle and driver/guide. You travel between parks and enjoy game drives in your own private 4x4 vehicle with English speaking driver guide throughout.

You stay at simple lodges and camps in prime locations; Tarangire Sopa Lodge gives you the opportunity to watch elephants wander by; the Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge also offers incredible views, being perched right on the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater and perfectly positioned for accessing the crater floor at first light; the Serengeti Sopa sits in the south west Serengeti, the only lodge in this section of the park.

This safari enables you to see the highlights of Tanzania at a pace that suits you and at a reasonable budget. If you like this, you may also be interested in the Escorted Tour of Tanzania - a small group drive-in safari.

For those not wishing to drive, please consider our Serengeti fly-in safaris.

Safari Itinerary

DAY 1

Arusha
Arrive at Kilimanjaro Airport where you will be met and transferred to your hotel in Arusha.

DAY 2

Tarangire National Park
After breakfast you will be driven to Tarangire National Park. You will arrive in plenty of time for lunch and then an afternoon game-drive before dinner. Tarangire is famous for its elephant herds, bird life and the Tarangire River. Because of the permanent, life-giving water flowing through the park by way of the River, it has one of the highest concentrations of wildlife between the long rains in April and May, and the short rains in November. While there is also an abundance of all forms of wildlife throughout the year, Tarangire is especially renowned for its large herds of elephants, tree climbing lions, huge pythons, its herds of Oryx which are regularly seen, and also for its rock paintings which were done by early man tens of thousands of years ago.

DAY 3-4

The Serengeti
Today you will depart for the world famous Serengeti after a delicious breakfast. Crossing the beautiful and scenic Ngorongoro Highlands and their Masai villages you finally enter the predator-rich plains of the Serengeti. The next day you have a full day to explore the Serengeti, the most famous National Park in Africa. Your driver- guide will choose your route based on his extensive knowledge of the park and local conditions but the Serengeti rarely disappoints. You will have a packed lunch with you to make the most of the day, but your trip might include tracking cheetah through the Gol Kopjes, hunting leopard along the Seronera River, avoiding the crocs and hippos at Retima or exploring the Masai paintings at Moru Kopjes. You will return to your lodge in time for dinner.
