Safari Itinerary

DAY 1 - 2

South Luangwa National Park
On arrival at Lusaka you need to transfer to your flight to Mfuwe Airport. On arrival at Mfuwe International Airport you will be met by a representative of Nkwali Camp and will be transferred to camp. The Luangwa Valley is vast, remote and home to both people and a truly impressive variety of game. The South Luangwa Park is 9050 sq. kilometres; with the river, its tributaries and the riverine strips being the focus of the wildlife viewing. There are diverse habitats, from huge ox bow lagoons of varying stages of maturity, woodlands, ebony groves, grassland and thickets, that host a great variety of wildlife. The birdlife is also excellent with over 450 species to be seen. You spend the next couple of days enjoying breakfast around the campfire. The morning bush walk or game drive will depart soon after. You enter the park by boat from the camp or by the nearby pontoon. The game is excellent – and includes many family herds of elephant and the endemic species of Thornicroft Giraffe. A mid-morning break for tea, coffee and cake will be taken at a scenic point on a lagoon or the Luangwa River. Return to camp for lunch around midday. Following lunch, you can cool off in the swimming pool or have a siesta. After tea you will go out on an afternoon game drive that continues into the evening give you the chance to see the nocturnal world.

DAY 3 - 5

South Luangwa National Park
After an early breakfast, a game drive through the park and across the river takes you into the Nsefu Sector, which is recognised as a phenomenal game view area. Nsefu Camp is a stunning permanent camp nestled up on the banks of the Luangwa River in the famous Nsefu sector of the park. With views up and down the Luangwa, the six rooms have one of the best settings of any Luangwa camp and have a team of guides that are up there with the best. The view of the river is superb and includes a terraced area where game grazes during the day. The bar and sitting room, tucked in beside a huge extinct termite mound, overlooks a waterhole that is very productive for game, especially leopard at night. Activities include game drives, visiting the local village and exploring the salt pans.

DAY 6 - 8

Lower Zambezi National Park
This morning you will fly via Lusaka to Royal Airstrip in the Lower Zambezi National Park. As you fly into the area, you will see the wide Zambezi River, dotted with islands. Buffalo and elephant are always seen feeding along the with pods of hippos that rest on the edge of the sandbanks. A game drive from the airstrip introduces you to the game of Lower Zambezi before arriving at Chiawa Camp. You spend the next few days enjoying game drives and safari activities including bush walks, day and night game drives, canoe trips and boating expeditions. Lower Zambezi National Park is in southern Zambia, on the Zimbabwean border. In the south, the Zambezi River valley is known for abundant wildlife, including buffalo, fish eagles and herds of elephants. Canoes ply the river, which is home to hippos and crocodiles.
