Conservation Fly In Safari: Laikipia and the Mara

This fantastic fly-in safari combines seeing some of Kenya's most iconic species from big cats and elephants to black and white rhino with behind-the-scenes conservation visits. From the wonderful Ol Pejeta Safari Cottages walk with an anti-poaching dog squad and visit the last two northern white rhinos in the world. From House in the Wild on the banks of the Mara River, Enonkishu Conservancy, Masai Mara, learn about the Mara Elephant project and efforts to minimise human/wildlife conflict in the conservancy. You can also visit the rhino sanctuary during your stay. Start or end your journey at Ololo Lodge in Nairobi National Park - brilliant for lion and rhino and for a visit to the pioneering Sheldrick Trust elephant nursery.

Explorers against Extinction: Profit from this holiday will be donated to the projects supported by our 'Explorers against Extinction' campaign. In 2018 we are working with African Parks to help establish a new anti-poaching canine unit in UNESCO World Heritage Garamba National Park, in Democratic Republic of Congo. This ancient park, a biodiversity hotspot, has been incredibly hard hit by poaching. It is our biggest project to date. The Real World Conservation Trust (formerly Real Africa Trust) works with leading conservation organisations to raise awareness as well as raising funds for specific projects. Partners include Save the Elephants, Save the Rhino, The Sheldrick Trust, Rhino Conservation Botswana and Animals saving Animals. You can find out more on our Conservation pages. On behalf of every client travelling, Real Africa makes a donation to the Trust. Our aim is to raise awareness about the plight of endangered species and to promote sustainable, socially responsible travel which benefits the wildlife and communities you choose to visit. The Real World Conservation Trust fosters a Sheldrick elephant orphan on behalf of all clients visiting Kenya on safari. Please let us know if you would like to visit your orphan during your trip so we can make necessary arrangements. We have just donated nearly $23,000 to the Sheldrick Trust to help them continue their excellent work in the world of elephant conservation - enough to fund more than 11 elephant rescues or to care for two orphans for a whole year.

Safari Itinerary

DAY 1 - 3

On arrival at Nairobi International Airport you will be met and transferred to Wilson Airport. You then fly to Nanyuki Airstrip where you will be met and transferred to Ol Pejeta and the Safari Cottages. You then spend the next couple of days enjoying twice daily game viewing and looking for the Big Five. There is plenty of wildlife here on this private game reserve including the iconic elephant, rhino, lion, leopard and cheetah. You also get to explore the other safari and conservation activities on offer such as visiting the anti-poaching dog squad to learn all about the work they do and their success at protecting the animals in the reserve. Guests also visit the northern white rhinos which are protected on this private reserve; one of the few places where you can still see them.

DAY 4 - 6

The Masai Mara
Today you will transfer back to the airstrip and fly to the Masai Mara where you will be met and transferred to your accommodation for the next few days, House in the Wild. You spend the next couple of days on twice daily game drives in the Enonkishu private conservancy in the Masai Mara. You travel at dawn and dusk when the animals are most active. You have a good chance of seeing all the iconic species including the resident pride of lion, leopard, elephant and cheetah. You will also visit the rhino sanctuary on the private estate where you can get up close to watch these majestic creatures which are sadly now very rare due to poaching. Guests can also enjoy other safari activities here such as horse-riding, hill walking, visiting community projects and nature walks.

Nairobi National Park
This morning after one last game drive and breakfast you will be transferred to the airstrip for your flight back to Nairobi. On arrival at Wilson you will be met and transferred to Nairobi National Park and Ololo Lodge. This is a lovely place to spend your last day in Kenya as Ololo is a superb safari lodge in the middle of the wonderful scenery of the national park but only a short drive to the airport. Guests go on an afternoon game drive within the national park where you have a good chance of seeing elephant and lion. There is also the option to visit the Daphne Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage where you can get up close to the young elephants and learn all about the conservation work they do at the Sheldrick Trust.
