Cross Border Safari Explorer: Chobe, Victoria Falls and Hwange

Safari in Chobe National Park and Forest Reserve, Botswana by 4x4, by boat on the Chobe River and on foot. Chobe is home to more elephants than anywhere else on the planet. Cross the border to Zimbabwe for a stay at Elephant Camp, Victoria Falls, with its stunning views of the Zambezi Gorges. Explore the Falls and meet the Wild Horizon elephants at the attached rescue, rehabilitation and release centre. Your next stop is The Hide Hwange, a partner in CWF, the Conservation & Wildlife Fund which supports anti-poaching efforts, lion conservation, elephant collaring and others projects in Hwange. The Hide sits on a permanent waterhole in a private concession and is a fabulous safari lodge.

Explorers against Extinction: Profit from this holiday will be donated to the projects supported by our 'Explorers against Extinction' campaign. In 2018 we are working with African Parks to help establish a new anti-poaching canine unit in UNESCO World Heritage Garamba National Park, in Democratic Republic of Congo. This ancient park, a biodiversity hotspot, has been incredibly hard hit by poaching. It is our biggest project to date. The Real World Conservation Trust (formerly Real Africa Trust) works with leading conservation organisations to raise awareness as well as raising funds for specific projects. Partners include Save the Elephants, Save the Rhino, The Sheldrick Trust, Rhino Conservation Botswana and Animals saving Animals. You can find out more on our Conservation pages. On behalf of every client travelling, Real Africa makes a donation to the Trust. Our aim is to raise awareness about the plight of endangered species and to promote sustainable, socially responsible travel which benefits the wildlife and communities you choose to visit.

Safari Itinerary

DAY 1 - 4

On arrival at Kasane you will be met by a lodge representative and transferred by road to Muchenje Safari Lodge. You will arrive at your lodge in time for afternoon tea, followed by your first afternoon/evening game drive. Muchenje Safari Lodge sits on an escarpment within the Chobe Forest Reserve on the quieter western side of Botswana’s Chobe National Park. With wonderful views of the Chobe River, the Caprivi Strip and seasonal flood plains, it’s position means that it is far away from busy areas. Game drives are the key activity; a true safari experience in an open 4x4 with professional guides, available early morning and afternoon. Game viewing can also be by boat on the Chobe River, on foot during bush walks, or by night on spot lit drives after dinner. A major feature of Chobe National Park is the elephant population currently estimated at around 120,000. The Chobe elephant are migratory, making seasonal movements of up to 200 km from the Chobe and Linyanti rivers, where they concentrate in the dry season, to the pans in the southeast of the park, to which they disperse in the rains.

DAY 5 - 7

Victoria Falls
After breakfast you will be transferred by road to Kasane International Airport where our representative will meet you. You’ll then be transferred to the border point where you will complete formalities and will then be transferred to Victoria Falls, arriving at The Elephant Main Camp in time to check-in. You spend the next two days relaxing at this wonderful camp and also enjoying some of the many optional activities available around Victoria Falls. The camp also offers many activities which are included in the price such as a canopy tour and a sunset Zambezi river cruise.

DAY 8 - 10

Hwange National Park
This morning after breakfast you will be transferred to Hwange National Park. You will arrive at The Hide in time for lunch. During your stay you will enjoy up to 4 activities per day including twice daily game drives. Hwange National Park, Zimbabwe's largest game reserve, is known for its abundant and diverse wildlife, in particular large herds of elephant, buffalo, giraffe as well as lion, leopard and the very endangered african wild dog.
