Spend longer with Uganda’s iconic mountain gorillas in magical Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and discover the fascinating tribal culture of the Batwa.
This thrilling fly-in gorilla habituation experience packs a lot into a short break.
Standard gorilla permits allow for one hour with the mountain gorillas - groups are usually between 8 and 10 people and you are allocated a specific habituated gorilla family first thing to track through the forest and visit.
The Habituation experience works slightly differently.
Groups tend to be smaller and you are permitted to spend up to 4 hours observing and following your gorilla family, guided by rangers from the Uganda Wildlife Authority.
The family you track and visit is not fully habituated. The purpose of these interactions is to get the gorillas used to human presence so this is a fabulous and fascinating opportunity to take part in the process. The guides, trackers and researchers who accompany you in to the forest will help you understand the body language exhibited by the gorillas and the complex family relationships. For up to four hours you follow the gorillas, becoming part of their forest world, as they play, eat, groom and go about their daily lives.
Following your time with the gorillas, you have the chance to experience tribal culture with the Batwa or ‘forest-keeper’ pygmies and to interact with the locals on a community walk through the villages.
Low altitude domestic flights offer spectacular views over Uganda and maximise your holiday time.
The Real World Conservation Trust works with leading conservation organisations to raise awareness as well as raising funds for specific projects through our Explorers Against Extinction campaign. This years campaigns are raising money for the Ape Alliance, Giraffe Conservation Foundation, Painted Dog Conservation and the Mariamma Charitable Trust. Our aim is to raise awareness about the plight of endangered species and to promote sustainable, socially responsible travel which benefits the wildlife and communities you choose to visit.Plan My Journey Speak To Us
As well as arranging habituation visits we also organise gorilla permits for the standard one hour visit - this can be done at various centres in Bwindi from Buhoma in the north (where the Gorilla Doctors are based) to Rushaga in the south - the most challenging trekking area. Booking early is the best way to secure permits in the region of choice.
