Ker & Downey: Short safari to the Delta

This is a short fly-in safari exploring the lush island landscape of the Okavango Delta, including the Moremi Game Reserve. You stay in a combination of two different Ker and Downey safari camps allowing you to experience different environments, wildlife and scenery.

The Real World Conservation Trust (formerly Real Africa Trust) works with leading conservation organisations to raise awareness as well as raising funds for specific projects. Partners include Save the Elephants, Save the Rhino, The Sheldrick Trust, Rhino Conservation Botswana and Animals saving Animals. You can find out more on our Conservation pages. On behalf of every client travelling, Real Africa makes a donation to the Trust. Our aim is to raise awareness about the plight of endangered species and to promote sustainable, socially responsible travel which benefits the wildlife and communities you choose to visit. We are incredibly excited to have raised enough funds for two triple role rhino protection dogs for Rhino Conservation Bostwana - they are currently in training and will be deployed in summer 2018. Ker & Downey, as part of its social responsibility programme supports Bana Ba Letsatsi (which means Children of the sun), a charity that was established in 2004 with the mission of supporting vulnerable, orphaned and at risk children living in Maun. Ker & Downey donate a percentage of each safari to the charity.

Safari Itinerary

DAY 1 - 2

Okavango Delta
On arrival in Maun Airport you will be met and assisted onto your light aircraft flight to Kanana Airstrip. On arrival at the airstrip you are met and transferred to Kanana Camp. This is a small tented camp situated deep in the Okavango Delta. This 6,000 square mile maze of lagoons, channels and islands is an incredible wilderness teeming with wildlife. Here guests are able to enjoy the magnificence of the Okavango waterways and the rich wildlife that concentrates on the palm fringed islands. 2017/18 has seen a significant number of big cats on the concession with numerous lion sightings being enjoyed. A coalition of young males was recently spotted 'engaging' with the females of the resident Kanana pride.

DAY 3 - 4

Moremi Game Reserve
After breakfast you will fly from Kanana to Okuti by light aircraft again. Camp Okuti offers unusual lagoon-side, reed roofed safari chalets on raised teak decks and a choice of two game viewing activities a day. Game drives are in open vehicles where an abundance of large mammals can be seen, while powerboat excursions head towards the upper delta. This is a fabulous camp to spend your last couple of nights in the Okavango. The Moremi Wildlife Reserve is situated in a corner of the Okavango Delta and covers more than 1,000 square kilometres of grassy floodplains, winding waterways, palm- fringed islands, forest and lush, lily-covered lagoons. With its mix of wetlands and woodlands, it is a wonderful game viewing location. This is where hippos and crocodiles bathe and laze in crystal-clear waters, while the wide variety of vegetation is home to a magnificent collection of wildlife. Huge herds of impala and tsessebe roam the savannah, and waterbuck are common. Although much of the game is migratory, the choice grazing ensures game viewing all year round. Lion, cheetah and leopard hunt in the open veld, and the area is particularly good for wild dogs.

Today you will be transferred back to Maun airport for your onward journey.
