Malawi Bush & Beach

A perfect balance of bush and beach, this trip takes you to two of Malawi's prime attractions staying at Robin Pope lodges throughout.

You start with 3 nights in Majete on safari with twice daily game drives as well as bush walks and boating safaris on offer. There is a wonderful selection of wildlife in Majete including elephant, black rhino and zebra. This is the only place in Malawi where you can see what was previously referred to as the Big Five (elephant, lion, buffalo, leopard, rhino).

You then head off to the spectacularly beautiful Lake Malawi. David Livingstone famously named Lake Malawi “The Lake of Stars” and for good reason, during the day the light dances across the deep blue water and once the sun has set the stars twinkle brightly both in the sky but also on the lake as the fishermen light up their hurricane lamps for their night on the lake. It is a truly beautiful place and a fantastic destination for swimming, scuba diving or just relaxing on the sandy beaches.

DAY 1 - 3

Majete Wildlife Reserve
On arrival at Blantyre Chileka International Airport you will meet your experienced English speaking driver/guide and be transferred to Majete Wildlife Reserve which is situated in the lower Shire valley in the South West of Malawi. Majete Wildlife Reserve offers a year-round wildlife experience and each season offers something unique. More than 4,000 animals have been reintroduced to the park, including elephant, black rhino, buffalo, zebra, sable antelope, eland, waterbuck, nyala, hartebeest, kudu and many more species. Standing beside the Shire River in the south west of Malawi, this area of the Great Rift Valley is characterised by sculpted miombo woodland undulating across the hills, which in turn overlook stunning river valleys and riverine forest. Depending on your arrival time you will enjoy lunch looking out over the Shire River or if you arrive in the afternoon, you can enjoy afternoon tea. Afternoon tea, is followed by your first late afternoon/evening game drive. You spend the next couple of days game viewing or enjoying the other activities available including boating safaris, bush walks, hiking Majete Hill, black rhino tracking, cultural tours, birding trips on the Shire River and to nearby Elephant Marsh.

DAY 4 - 7

Lake Malawi
Following breakfast enjoy a scenic drive to the Nankumba Peninsula of Lake Malawi. The Nankumba Peninsula is recognised as one of the most beautiful shores of the lake and borders Lake Malawi National Park. Malawi's most impressive feature is Lake Malawi, the third largest lake in Africa and 20% of the surface of Malawi. Lake Malawi is a World Heritage site and offers a larger variety of freshwater fish species than all of Europe and North America combined, and offers some of the best freshwater scuba diving in the world. Guests are spoilt for choice when it comes to activities at Pumulani, whether it's snorkelling, kayaking, or just relaxing on the beach. For visitors wanting to do something active during their Lake Malawi stay, there is also waterskiing, sailing, diving, fishing, wakeboarding and bird watching. Visitors can also enjoy a sunset cruise on Pumulani's traditional wooden dhow, hand built by local craftsmen. Pumulani offers guests the unique experience of enjoying a guided walk through the local villages. The people of Malawi are known to be amongst the friendliest in Africa, and these walks give visitors a chance to meet them and see how they live. Many guest say this is the highlight of their trip.
