SERENA SAFARI: Classic safari circuit

This is a wonderful classic safari, perfect for first time visitors to Kenya. The safari incorporates four contrasting safari areas, from Mount Kenya to the Masai Mara, giving you a fantastic opportunity to see all the Big Five. Between July and November there is also a chance to catch up with the annual wildebeest migration in the Masai Mara. This is a drive-in safari in a custom safari pop top minivan - with your own private vehicle and driver/guide. Please note: it is also possible to upgrade to a 4x4 Landcruiser safari vehicle.

At Ol Pejeta, a not for profit conservancy you have several additional conservation activities to choose from if of interest: walk with the anti poaching dogs and learn about their role, visit the Morani Education Centre and the last two northern white rhinos in the world, or tour the chimpanzee sanctuary opened by Jane Goodall.

You stay in the highly respected Serena properties throughout.

The Real World Conservation Trust (formerly Real Africa Trust) works with leading conservation organisations to raise awareness as well as raising funds for specific projects. Partners include Save the Elephants, Save the Rhino, The Sheldrick Trust, Rhino Conservation Botswana and Animals saving Animals. You can find out more on our Conservation pages. On behalf of every client travelling, Real Africa makes a donation to the Trust. You will have a chance to visit one of our partners, DSWT, during your trip. The Trust has fostered a number of elephants over the years and has just donated $23,000 to DSWT as a result of our Explorers against Extinction campaign (November 2017). This is enough to fund more than 11 elephant rescues or to look after two orphans for an entire year.

Safari Itinerary

On arrival in Nairobi you will be met and transferred to your hotel. Rest of day at leisure.

Mount Kenya
After breakfast check-out and visit the Giraffe Centre where you will have the opportunity to feed these elegant animals. You will then be transferred to the David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage to see the baby elephants that have been rescued. These elephants are rehabilitated for release back to the wild. To date the orphanage has successfully hand-raised over 150 infant elephants and has accomplished its long-term conservation priority by effectively reintegrating orphaned elephants back into the wild herds of Tsavo. Following your visit, enjoy lunch at Karen Blixen Coffee Garden before heading off to the Mount Kenya region where you will arrive at Serena Mountain Lodge in the late afternoon. Serena Mountain Lodge has the feel of a ski chalet and is situated in the forest at the foot of Mount Kenya at an altitude of over 1,900 metres. Throughout the day and night forest animals visit the waterhole and saltlick, ensuring you of many exciting moments. The rest of the day is at leisure watching game from your room.

DAY 3 - 4

Ol Pejeta
After breakfast depart the lodge and head off to Ol Pejeta Conservancy with a picnic lunch enroute. Enjoy game viewing in the afternoon. The Ol Pejeta Conservancy is a 90,000-acre (360 km2) not-for-profit wildlife conservancy in Central Kenya's Laikipia County. It is situated on the equator west of Nanyuki, between the foothills of the Aberdares and Mount Kenya. The Conservancy boasts the largest black rhino sanctuary in East Africa, and in 2013, reached a population milestone of 100 black rhino. It also houses the two remaining northern white rhino in the world. The Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary is situated here, and provides a haven for orphaned, abandoned and rescued chimpanzees. It is the only place in Kenya where these great apes can be seen.
