This wonderful family holiday starts in the ocean side city of Cape Town, one of the most beautiful cities in the world and packed with interesting things to do for all the family, from riding the cable car up Table Mountain to visiting the curious penguin colony at Boulders Beach.
Accommodation has been handpicked and chosen specifically to make your family holiday flow as easily as possible. There's a real variety from a city apartment to family rooms and suites.
The majority of your stay will be very flexible with you travelling at your own pace with a family hire car. You'll be able to drive through stunning scenery along the Garden Route visiting fabulous beaches at Knysna, Plettenberg Bay and Storms River. There are plenty of places to stop from the vineyards and small towns of the Cape Winelands which are perfect for shady picnics, amongst the francolins, springbok and giant tortoises, to small wildlife reserves and sanctuaries, like 'Eagle Encounter' at Spier or the free-roaming primate sanctuary, 'MonkeyLand' near Plett. There are also landmark stop-offs, like the famous town of Hermanus, on Walker Bay, one of the best places for shore based whale watching (June to November).
You will also get the chance to see the ‘Big 5’ in a malaria free private game reserve. This is your chance to park the car and enjoy expertly guided game drives. There are many different reserves in the Eastern Cape, many of which offer a behind the scenes look at conservation initiatives - for example Gondwana, or Shamwari which has a Big Cat Rehab centre and a rhino awareness programme you can visit. Visiting projects like this and speaking to the rangers offers a whole new dimension to your holiday and can be truly inspirational.
The Real World Conservation Trust (formerly the Real Africa Trust) works with leading conservation organisations to raise awareness as well as raising funds for specific projects. Partners include Save the Elephants, Save the Rhino, The Sheldrick Trust, Rhino Conservation Botswana and Animals saving Animals. You can find out more on our Conservation pages. On behalf of every client travelling, Real Africa makes a donation to the Trust. Specifically on this journey you will stay at Grootbos, famous for its conservation programme and non profit Grootbos Foundation which invests funds into implementing key conservation and development projects. By choosing to stay at Grootbos you will be directly supporting biodiversity conservation and social upliftment in the Walker Bay region.Plan My Journey Speak To Us
