Northern Circuit - Tanzania Wildlife Extra - Extended Drive in Safari

This is a comprehensive safari for those who really want to spend more time in the parks and reserves of Northern Tanzania. You have a private guide and your own 4x4 vehicle throughout.
You will spend time game-viewing in all the parks you visit, including 4 nights in the Serengeti staying in two different camps in two different areas. You also visit Lake Manyara, Tarangire and the spectacular Ngorongoro Crater. This is a great mix of tented camps and lodges including the luxurious Escarpment Lodge in Lake Manyara. You will also get to meet and learn about the colourful Maasai and their traditional culture.

The Real World Conservation Trust (formerly Real Africa Trust) works with leading conservation organisations to raise awareness as well as raising funds for specific projects. Previous partners include Save the Elephants, Save the Rhino, The Sheldrick Trust, Rhino Conservation Botswana, Animals saving Animals, Flora and Fauna International and African Parks. You can find out more on our Conservation pages and specifically our current campaigns on our Explorers Against Extinction website ( On behalf of every client travelling, Real Africa makes a donation to the Trust. Safari Itinerary

DAY 1 - 2

On arrival at Kilimanjaro Airport you are met by your private vehicle and guide and drive to Mount Meru Game Lodge; a lovely safari lodge surrounded by lush green gardens and an animal sanctuary. You might even see zebras on the lawn outside your room. The following day after breakfast you depart for your morning game drive in Arusha National Park. Arusha National Park covers Mount Meru, a prominent volcano with an elevation of 4,566m, in the Arusha Region of north eastern Tanzania. The park is small but varied with spectacular landscapes in three distinct areas. In the west, the Meru Crater funnels the Jekukumia River; the peak of Mount Meru lies on its rim. Ngurdoto Crater in the south-east is grassland. The shallow alkaline Momella Lakes in the north-east have varying algal colours and are known for their wading birds. Mount Meru is the second highest peak in Tanzania after Mount Kilimanjaro, which is just 60 km away and forms a backdrop to views from the park to the east. You will return to the lodge for lunch and enjoy the rest of the afternoon at leisure.

DAY 3 - 4

Tarangire National Park
After a morning safari briefing you will be driven to Tarangire with an afternoon game drive in the park. You will have a full day in Tarangire National Park, with morning and evening game drives included. Tarangire National Park is a national park in Tanzania's Manyara Region and covers an area of approximately 2,850 square kilometres (1,100 square miles.). The name of the park originates from the Tarangire River that crosses the park and the landscape is composed of granitic ridges, river valley, and swamps. The park is famous for its high density of elephants and baobab trees. Visitors to the park in the June to November dry season can expect to see large herds of thousands of zebra, wildebeest and Cape buffalo. Other common resident animals include waterbuck, giraffe, dik-dik, impala, eland, Grant's gazelle, vervet monkey, banded mongoose, and olive baboon. Predators in Tarangire include lion, leopard, cheetah, caracal, honey badger, and African wild dog.

DAY 5 - 6

Ndutu Region, South-East Serengeti
Today you drive to the Serengeti, with game viewing on route. You will be in the Serengeti for four nights, based at two different lodges to ensure you get the most variety of flora, fauna and landscape. The Serengeti is one of the best wildlife viewing areas in the world and your chances of seeing the Big Five (and much more) are very high. Ndutu Lodge has global importance for biodiversity conservation due to the presence of globally threatened species, the density of wildlife inhabiting the area, and the annual migration of wildebeest, zebra, gazelles and other animals into the northern plains. Extensive archaeological research has also yielded a long sequence of evidence of human evolution and human-environment dynamics, including early hominid footprints dating back 3.6 million years.
