Wild Botswana

Enjoy land and water based safaris from these superb Wilderness tented camps in private concessions in the Okavango and Linyanti, famous for its big game.

The Wilderness Wildlife Trust, an independent non-profit entity associated with the Wilderness Group, supports a wide variety of projects across Africa. The projects and researchers that it supports address the needs of existing wildlife populations, seek solutions to save endangered species and provide education and training for local people and their communities. The Trust focuses its work in three key areas: Research and Conservation – including species studies, monitoring of populations and understanding human-animal conflicts. Community Empowerment and Education – such as community upliftment and the Children in the Wilderness programme. Anti-poaching and Management – including aerial surveys, anti-poaching units and increasing capacity for researchers in general. Specific projects in Botswana include the Okavango Spotted Hyaena Study and the Vulture Conservation Project. In addition, on behalf of all clients travelling Real Africa makes a donation to The Real World Conservation Trust which works with a number of leading conservation organisations including Rhino Conservation Botswana and Save the Elephants. The Trust's current campaign, Explorers against Extinction has successfully raised enough money to fund a brand new canine unit for RCB. Two pups are currently in training with Animals saving Animals to be deployed to Botswana in summer 2018 as rhino protection dogs. Visit our News and Conservation pages for more info!

Safari Itinerary

DAY 1-3

Linyanti and the Savute Channel
On arrival at Maun International Airport collect your luggage and clear customs. You will be met by our representative in the Public Arrivals Hall, and they will assist you with check-in for your light aircraft transfer to Duma Tau Camp. Duma Tau is located close to the source of the Savute Channel, with access to the Linyanti Swamps, floodplains and mopane woodlands, thus offering an excellent combination of habitats. Well known for its elephant concentrations as they congregate along the waterways and lagoons during the dry winter months, the area is also renowned for general wildlife including red lechwe, Burchell's zebra, giraffe, buffalo and warthog. Predator sightings of lion, leopard, cheetah, wild dog and spotted hyena are good.

DAY 4-6

The Okavango Delta
After your morning safari and breakfast you will be transferred to the airstrip for your short flight south to Hunda Island in the Okavango Delta. Tubu Tree Camp is a small, traditional tented safari camp on a large island in the Jao Reserve, on the west of the Okavango Delta. Although this reserve is dominated by permanent wetlands with deep-water channels, seasonal floodplains and islands, Tubu is built on Hunda Island, the largest dry island in the reserve – so when the floods arrive, the game drives from Tubu Tree offer the best game sightings in the area.

Return to Maun.
After breakfast you will be transferred to the airstrip for your return flight to Maun.
