Out of all of us it is probably our children who are most fascinated by the natural world and in particular the wildlife. I know that my children love watching nature documentaries and are already far better authorities on the difference between alligators and crocodiles than I am! What better way to enhance their enthusiasm and turn into a life long passion than to take them on a safari holiday. This trip will be something they will never ever forget.
At Real Africa we offer family safari holidays in both East Africa and Southern Africa. Our family safaris in Kenya and Tanzania are all chosen carefully by us because they offer special facilities for families with children unlike some of our better known luxurious and romantic camps. Almost all the safari lodges and camps we use off Children’s Adventure Clubs where on site and fully trained naturalists and safari guides will teach the kids all about the local wildlife. The lodges and camps also offer a wide range of activities including wildlife walks (without parents!), lectures with videos etc, tracker training, games and creative activities. There are also a whole range of wildlife encounters that will keep the kids enthralled such as feeding giraffes or getting up close to the local monkeys.
And don’t forget that your children will have the chance to go big game spotting on the twice daily safari drives through several national parks such as the world famous Masai Mara. Give them a check list for spotting the Big Five or even the more elusive leopard or perhaps a crocodile about to pounce? Safari holidays in Kenya and Tanzania can be combined with a beach stay on the Mombasa coast or on the island of Zanzibar. This is a great chance to unwind from all the excitement and relax on the white sandy beaches and in the warm turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean. Both on the Kenya coast around Mombasa and on Zanzibar there are plenty of large family resorts with lots of facilities and water sports available for all the family.
Also popular are our family safaris in South Africa. These are particularly popular with families and those with younger children as there are some malaria free zones which offer fantastic safari options. The Cape Province in particular offers great game viewing and can be combined with a trip to Cape Town to visit Table Mountain by cable car or the funny penguins at Boulder Bay. You can even go whale, dolphin and shark watching in this area as the sea life is as exciting as the game in this part of the world! This part of South Africa offers something for everyone as there are vineyards and fantastic restaurants to keep Mum and Dad happy too!
