Exploring 4 Rivers Botswana

  • 6th March 2023
  • Sara

Kwando 4 Rivers camp in Botswana is due to open in June 2023.

The new safari camp will offer a classic tented safari experience,  while the location on the northern edge of the Okavango Delta looks to be very special.

4 Rivers sits on its own in the far north-west corner of the private 175,000 hectare Kwara Reserve, bordering the wildlife-rich Moremi Game Reserve to the east and Maboa Island to the west. It’s at least a 3 hour drive from the nearest neighbour, Kwara Camp.

The reserve is home to a variety of ecosystems including pretty wooded islands, deep waterways, floodplains and large tracts of savannah.  The area is largely unexplored, adding to the excitement!

The private Kwara Reserve itself hosts fewer than 50 guests at any one time. Guest at 4 Rivers share the reserve with only two other camps, both in the Kwando portfolio:  Splash and Kwara.

The guiding team is due to move in this month to start the process of identifying best walking and driving routes, as well as looking for the best places for seasonal activities such as mokoro trips (dug out canoe) when the water is high enough.  In the meantime, the team on the ground has already noticed the healthy population of predators moving through the area including lion, spotted hyena, wild dogs and leopard.

There are nine large Meru tents (including a family tent) raised up on wooden decks looking out over a permanent small lagoon to Maboa Island beyond. Each tent is ensuite with an indoor/outdoor shower.

The camp is going to be powered completely by solar energy and have the highest eco-standards – both design and construction is being undertaken with nature in mind.

The camp is accessed by its own private airstrip, around 15 minutes away.
